Library

Cary Kolat created a library of over 2000 wrestling techniques that he studied and perfected during his 30 year career as an elite athlete & coach. The library is organized into offensive moves, defense moves, strategy, etc. This gives the user, from beginner to Olympian, the ability to easily find the series that will benefit them the most. Related techniques and counter moves are associated with each series to help his students completely master the sport. Cary's knowledge of wrestling and his ability to teach and execute every move in the library is unprecedented. "Amateur Wrestling News" wrote, "KOLAT.COM is like the library of congress of wreslting."

Always Growing

Unlike a DVD you would purchase, KOLAT.COM is constantly growing. Just like any wrestler constantly improving and learning, we are continually updating the site with new technique clips across the spectrum of wrestling. When you sign-up for one of our subscriptions you will receive new information monthly at no extra charge.

Solve Your Technique Problems Now

No more waiting on technique DVDs to come in the mail, we have over 1950 clips categorized so you find exactly what you’re looking for without the wait. If you are facing an opponent that has a big move the chances are we have the counter already on the site. We have two ways to search for technique. You can drill down through our library and scan the categories or simply type the name of the move your looking for in the search bar and pull up all the clips containing your search without the wait. Every series is built from the most basic technique to the most advanced as you progress through the series you happen to be in.

Progressive Learning

I have built each series in a progressive order so as you scroll through a series the techniques start from the most basic techniques and advance to the most technical techniques. Now dads just getting there sons/daughters introduced to the sport can start at the beginning, slowly learn the fundamentals and advance through a series without missing important steps and give their wrestlers the foundation of fundamentals that they need. Example the single leg series will start with penetration steps, then set-ups, then the most basic techniques to the most advanced. You can start where you think your skill level starts from.

Coaches & Athletes Can Visually Plan Practice & Organize Technique Clips

Coaches now have a tool that can visually plan practice with the "KOLAT/Planner" (the practice planner is currently disabled as we make updates please use the link for more informaiton on its return:  Planner Update)page once you sign-up for an account. You can find clips you like, sort them, drop them into different practices representing days of the week and properly plan what you will teach on a specific day. You could even take it a step further if you wanted, simply hook up a laptop and a projector in your wrestling room and have cary kolat do a clinic for your team everyday if you like. The KOLAT/Planner page will easily allow you to organize your training thoughts in just a couple minutes a day, and have you better prepared to train your wrestlers. You now have a tool that can simply get you out of the same old training grind and keep you and your wrestlers fresh mentally!

Affordable

This is no substitute for attending wrestling camp and getting hands on instruction from cary or other quality coaches but if you cannot afford gas prices, club memberships, or wrestling camp kolat.com will fit your budget. We offer a variety of subscription packages so you are not hitting your wallet every time you want to get ahead of the competition.

Time In Mind

All technique clips have been built with time in mind. Clips range from :30 sec in length to 1:30 min in length. Demonstrations are shot in the same format for each clip cary will talk you through the move slowly, then demonstrate in different angles at a wrestling pace, then the clip will repeat those angles in slow motion. If you miss something you can use the scroll bar or simply play the short clip again.

Past Camp Participants

No more returning home from camp trying to remember what you had learned. There is a section in kolat.com listing camp dates simply find the date you attended and get all the techniques you were taught once again right here.

Techniques For All Shapes and Sizes

The library is built with technique in mind not style. Cary is not just teaching what he used on a regular basis but technique he has seen used by other wrestlers. There is something for you no matter if you are short and stocky, or tall and lanky.

No longer will you have to wait for the DVD and only get a handful of moves that you may or may not like. KOLAT.COM is offering technique in all areas of wrestling.

The Pain Remains

In the bizarre world of international wrestling strange things reportedly happen. Matches get thrown. Money exchanges hands. Rules get manipulated. Phantom points appear on scoreboards.

The sport on an international level unfortunately has a history of functioning outside the realm of ethics. And no wrestler has experienced the dark side of this organization like Cary Kolat.

Kolat represented the United States at three World Championships and one Olympics from 1997 through 2000 at 63 kg (138.75 pounds). During those four years Kolat garnered one silver medal, one bronze medal and a lifetime of questions.

Former Olympian Cary Kolat Rejoins UNC Wrestling Staff

12/9/2014

CHAPEL HILL - Cary Kolat, former two-time NCAA champion and member of the 2000 United States Olympic Wrestling Team, is returning to UNC as Director of Wrestling Operations, Tar Heel head coach C.D. Mock announced. Kolat will also be the director and head coach of the North Carolina Olympic Training Center based in Chapel Hill.

Kolat was on the UNC staff for two years in 2002-03 and has worked on collegiate staffs at Lehigh, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Lock Haven, his alma mater. For the past two years, Kolat has been directing a private wrestling club in Maryland and operating Kolat.com, a wrestling training site.

"We are thrilled to have Cary back at Carolina," says Mock. "He's been an assistant coach at several other top wrestling schools. As director of the new Olympic Training Center, Cary brings some tremendous opportunities to our state. He is one of the premier trainers in the nation. Last year he coached Team Maryland in the Cadet and Junior National Championships and they performed exceptionally well.

"The Training Center is going to be an asset for amateur wrestlers and coaches throughout the state. There is so much to offer here; I am certain that Olympic hopefuls will come to Chapel Hill to train with Cary and other members of the Club."

Kolat won NCAA championships in 1995 and 1996 at Lock Haven and finished second as a freshman at Penn State in 1993. He finished his collegiate career with a 111-7 record. He went 137-0 in high school, winning four Pennsylvania state titles. In addition to the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia, Kolat competed for the United States in a dozen other international competitions.

"Getting back to Chapel Hill has been a priority of mine, so to work with Coach Mock and his staff is a real privilege," says Kolat, who won World Cup gold medals from 1998-2000 and finished in the top four at the World Championships on three separate occasions. "Directing the Olympic Training Center gives me a chance to make a positive impact on my sport and help amateur wrestlers and coaches from around the state. The Training Center will not only attract some of the best wrestlers from around the country at the senior level, but will also help boost wrestling in North Carolina at all levels. Local athletes can watch, learn from, and train with some of the best wrestlers competing to make the 2012 Olympics and other international teams."

Kolat, Ware, Burroughs among wrestlers advancing to finals at U.S. Open

Cary Kolat fires in on a shot against Josh Churella in the semifinals on Saturday in Cleveland. John Sachs photo.

CLEVELAND – Cary Kolat turns 38 years old next month.

But that’s not stopping the two-time World medalist and past Olympian from making another comeback.

The unseeded Kolat, idle since 2008, has returned with a flourish after downing No. 2 seed Josh Churella Saturday afternoon to advance to the U.S. Open finals.

Kolat advances to face past two-time NCAA champion Teyon Ware in the freestyle finals at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. Ware is 10 years younger than Kolat, but came away impressed when Kolat battled Churella in the semis. Kolat outlasted Churella in three periods in the semis.

“Kolat’s still pretty good,” Ware said, flashing a smile. “He’s a tough wrestler.”

PLANNER - KOLAT 4/14/11 Freestyle: Crotch Lift Training Session

12/8/2014

Freestyle:  Crotch Lift Training Session

Freestyle wrestling has always I believe been the biggest success story when teaching athletes how to be more strategic and given them the ability of scoring when your opponent attacks.  This session will focus on the crotch lift when your opponent has attempted a high crotch takedown.  You should use this session to keep your wrestlers relaxed so they are not over reacting out of fear and to look for scoring options.

Warm-Up 20 minutes

   - Jog/tumble
   - Head position no hands
   - Head position with hands
   - Holding a tripod to defend point drill
   - Gut wrench partner drill simply defend to loosen up rib cage

Technique 55 minutes

During the technique teaching be sure that they are concentrating on not over reacting to opponents shots and using the opportunity to see all scoring possibilities.  This will be tough for first time freestyle wrestlers they have been taught to always sprawl when they are under attack. Use the following link for the entire series and more detail if needed: Crotch Lift Series

   - Being offensive when being attacked
   - Stepping to the corner
   - Crotch lift
   - Opponent go’s low pick-up
   - Tie crotch lift & pick-up together
   - Opponent go’s low crotch lift fall back finish

Live Wrestling 20 minutes

Situational wrestling is key when learning to execute. This will be tough for those attempting the crotch lift with partners knowing exactly what they are attempting.  As a coach what you are looking for is how well they keep balance, are they now comfortable letting a guy in on the leg, and are they close to scoring.  The first section of live is combative drilling where the wrestler shooting the high crotch is moving and setting up the shot.  You are to let him in on your leg and once in it is live.  No more than :20 sec of wrestling after each shot:

-        6 min one mat shooting high-c other man looking for crotch lift
-        2 min break
-       6 min one mat shooting high-c other man looking for crotch lift
-        2 min break
-        1 three period live bout

Conditioning 6 minutes

   - Tripod holds 3 min straight each man

Warm-down 5 minutes

   -Partner stretch

Total Practice Time 106 Minutes
