We are currently running the kids through preseason conditioning and lifting. Was wonder what specific lifts, drills, etc we could incorporate to strengthen grip.

grip from hell
rope climbing (10 time a day at least) and pull-up's(sets of 20 min).. its that simple
Get a 5 gallon bucket and
Get a 5 gallon bucket and fill it up (3/4) with uncooked rice. Have the athlete stick one hand into the bucket and have them try to work their hand all the way down to touch the bottom of the bucket. Alternate hands, its exhausting and it works all the tendons and ligaments in fingers, wrist and forearm.

uhm, is there an alternative to rice? that seems like such a big waste of rice

sand works well too, just get some clean multipurpose (like sandbox) stuff, not from you backyard.
Wash.
Try pull ups/chin ups using a very thick towel (you roll the towel length ways and then tape it to keep it from unraveling.
