What Age Should I Start My Son Wrestling?

age 5 is too early

In my opinion, to start playing wrestling at an early age of five is totally wrong. I am totally against of it. As we know, at the age of five children are not totally developed and matured too. They should be encourage when they are mentally and physically prepared for it. Thus, when the right time comes they should be motivated to play wrestling.

Age to start wrestling

I can only speak for myself. I started at age 5, I think it was great for me. My dad had me going all over the state of Iowa. I think you can get your kid burnt out at any sport if you start them to early. Coach Kolat is certainly right about the fact that most kids phyical and mental ability may not be ready at an early age. I think as long as the love the sport and have fun, any age would be ok.

My son

So I have a son who is going into eighth grade and he has an interest in wrestling. I am a huge supporter of my son but I am also EXTREMELY protective of him. Do you really think it is safe to start so young? And does this have a danger of messing up his ears? I am a health care cna certification professional and I have seen cauliflower ear and it worries me. Any information you can give would be great thanks. =)

Learning has no age

Learning has no age but to start the wrestling the maturaity level of a person should be developed Properly. I agree kids learn early than younger ones. But still I think five year age is too early to start the wrestling. Thanks!!

Age five is the earliest to

Age five is the earliest to start a child in wrestling. I do agree it should depend on the maturity level of the child. In my experience having wrestled in junior high & high school & officiating the sport, when a child does begin wrestling let him or her have fun and learn about the sport. When the time comes to be serious about winning in wrestling, usually in high school, sometimes earlier, the child will become committed to winning at that time because they will have had the chance to have fun and learn about wrestling at a younger age.
